2010/07/08 - More missions for Persistent Surveillance on Aerostat

Since the initial fielding of Persistent Surveillance on Aerostat (PSA) systems in Afghanistan last November, the Canadian Forces have also deployed these units for security operations during the Winter Olympics and Paralympics Games in Vancouver, and the recently held G20 Summit in Toronto. In addition, PSAs will participate at Empire Challenge 2010, an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance interoperability demonstration conducted by the U.S. Joint Forces Command with international participation from Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and other NATO member nations.

The PSA has proved to be an invaluable tool for target detection and identification. One of the key benefits is that the system can operate day and night, in all weather, and can identify targets up to 20 km. Consequently, the system is ideal for protecting large areas in rough terrains. As proven, the system can be used for military or homeland security missions.
